Microdermabrasion at Hubbard Plastic Surgery
Like cleansing and moisturizing, regular exfoliation is an important step in any skincare regimen. Although washcloths and drugstore scrubs can be effective at removing the outermost layer of dead surface cells, the results may not yield the visible improvement you want. Microdermabrasion at the Virginia Beach practice of Dr. Thomas Hubbard takes exfoliation to the next level to reveal beautiful, glowing skin that responds better to topical products.
People in Virginia Beach considering microdermabrasion are looking for natural-looking enhancements that the skilled treatment professionals at Hubbard Plastic Surgery provide. Request a complimentary consultation online or contact our office by calling (757) 687-1900 to discuss your options.
Denise Kail, a registered nurse with more than 10 years in practice, keeps our patients looking their best with her expert administration of non-surgical skincare treatments.
Is Microdermabrasion for Me?
Because microdermabrasion is a gentle, non-invasive procedure, it's suitable for many different people. Microdermabrasion does not discolor skin and is safe for individuals of all ethnicities. However, keep in mind that wearing a sunscreen is important to prevent any hyperpigmentation after the skin is exfoliated.
Regular microdermabrasion can:
- Revive dull, lifeless skin
- Reduce the appearance of oversized pores
- Improve mild concerns related to the tone or texture of the skin
During Your Procedure
At Hubbard Plastic Surgery, microdermabrasion requires no anesthetic and is quite comfortable. Before beginning, our aesthetician or nurse first cleanses your face. We use the DiamondTome™ Skin Resurfacing System, one of the most popular microdermabrasion devices available today. The DiamondTome device uses a diamond-studded applicator tip to exfoliate the skin without irritation.
Our aesthetician uses different applicators with the DiamondTome tips to achieve the desired result. First, a medium-grain tip is used to make 2 passes over the entire face before switching to a fine-grain tip to even out the complexion. The aesthetician uses this tip to make 2 more passes over the face before applying moisturizer and sunscreen. A typical microdermabrasion treatment lasts less than 1 hour.
Recovery and Healing
Microdermabrasion does not require any recuperation, therefore you can return to your activities as soon as your appointment is over. Some patients experience mild redness that typically subsides over the next few hours. Makeup can be applied after your treatment, and microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types.
A Complete Makeover
Although microdermabrasion will produce visible results after just a single appointment, we typically recommend a series of 3 to 5 appointments to achieve optimal results. Your aesthetician helps you develop a timeline that works best for you. Removing the outermost layers of dead skin cells can improve penetration of skincare products. For this reason, many microdermabrasion patients at Hubbard Plastic Surgery have the procedure just prior to a chemical peel to provide stronger product penetration and improved results.
