I love what I do because...

I have the opportunity to work in a profession that allows me to express my two most defining characteristics: creativity and attention to detail. Plastic surgery allows me to combine artistry and engineering with precision, technical skills and the highest standards of safety.

The most challenging aspect of being a surgeon is...

Incorporating each patient's unique needs, goals and desires into an appropriate plan. This demands thoroughly detailed discussions, intense creative energy and the highest ethical standards. In my practice, it is important to me to always discuss expectations honestly and realistically.

What I enjoy most about my job is that...

I get to meet many interesting people and help them make a positive change in their lives.

If I could not be a surgeon, I would like to be...

A filmmaker. I take vast amounts of video of my family. It's fun to pore through them, find just the right clips and then add music and special effects.

I think patients choose me as their surgeon because...

They feel comfortable with me. By the time a patient arrives in the office, most of them have already done their homework and they know about my qualifications and years of experience. But during our consultation, they learn to trust me as their surgeon because I give them an honest, realistic view of what we can accomplish. I listen to their concerns, answer their questions and, together, we come up with a plan. Sometimes, we decide that surgery is not the best option. My job during the consultation is not about salesmanship; it's about looking out for a patient's best interest. And, based on the feedback we get from patients, I believe they appreciate that.

Something about me that may surprise you...

Is that I grew up on a farm where I helped raise horses, exercised thoroughbreds, built fence, bailed hay and even ran incubators hatching chickens, ducks and geese. Thankfully, I still have all my fingers!

When I am not at work, I enjoy...

Fishing in the bay and going on hiking trips with my family. I prefer to go backpacking and camping but have yet to convince anyone else in my family.

What I love most is...

Dark chocolate, a comfortable pair of jeans, my family and pleasing people (not necessarily in that order).
